Where DingTalk's users and AI features stand
DingTalk, Alibaba's workplace collaboration app, now reports 700 million users and 25 million organizations, including companies and schools. It has 28 million paid daily active users and 120,000 paying enterprises. More than 20 product lines and over 80 scenarios have connected to large models, and 700,000 enterprises are actually using DingTalk AI.
What AI penetration could mean for this user base
With a user base like this, if AI capabilities can be pushed through to these users, the significance may be that office workers enter the AI era ahead of schedule. Most of them went straight from a pre-digital way of working into a digital one, and AI could give them a qualitative step up within five years.
A risk in DingTalk's rollout
One concern is that if the scenarios and habits of these users do not match the product, the result may be a product that does not fit how people actually work. Whether small-business management can be solved by a product at all is still open, and it remains to be seen whether the stride is too large. The complexity is not the product's fault. The core task is still to deliver a renewed experience in one single scenario.
WPS AI and its clearer scenarios
By contrast, WPS AI may face fewer problems, because its scenarios are so well defined: documents, spreadsheets, and slides. Getting any one of them right gives users a new level of efficiency.
The Wolai acquisition and DingTalk's personal edition
DingTalk's purchase of Wolai, a Chinese note-taking app, looks like a good deal. Folding Wolai into the personal edition pulls individual users in directly.
